Ukraine Is Not Fighting Alone

Ukrainians need help: millions of those who have left the country, including mainly women and children (mostly taking refuge in Poland), as well as those who have stayed to defend it. Our help must be generous and unceasing, even if we are overwhelmed by fatigue while the costs keep rising. This, among other things, is what the special edition of Dziennik Gazeta Prawna is about. The Poles understand the Ukrainians and their situation. That is why our financial, military and social help ranks among the biggest in size and, in relation to our resources, is probably the largest. Furthermore, we have become a bridge connecting Ukraine by road, rail and air with the free world and with all those who lend their support. In the chain of help, Poland is a reliable link, strong and generous.

Juliusz Mieroszewski, commentator for Kultura in Paris and architect of Poland’s eastern policy endorsed by the Maisons-Laffitte, which proved to be extremely accurate in many respects, cautioned that there would be no freedom and democracy in Central Europe, and perhaps even in Europe tout court, in the absence of free, democratic states beyond our eastern border. We also understand that the Ukrainians - forgive the cliché - are fighting for something more than their own independence and territorial integrity. In this sense, it is no ordinary war, if war can be ordinary at all. The Ukrainians are fighting for the legal and political order in Europe and the world that we, free nations and countries, should care to protect. The Ukrainians are fighting against a mortal threat for the free nations and countries. That is why we must continue our wide-ranging help to Ukraine. Otherwise, the price that Putin will charge us for our earlier obeisance and naivety will be even steeper...
