The Era of Payments 3.0 Has Arrived
Our goal is to become a leading European technology brand. Outside Poland, we already serve dozens of shops in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia. We see potential for collaboration in many industries – says Wojciech Murawski, co-CEO and a board member at Autopay
What innovative solutions is Autopay currently focusing on and how do they impact the daily lives of its users?
Autopay is a leader in the Polish payments market. We are one of the largest technology companies in Poland, providing services to the financial, telecommunications and e-commerce sectors. Our mission is to provide an exceptional payment experience that is convenient, intuitive and essentially invisible by creating products and services that simplify and speed up everyday tasks. More than 10 million people use our services every month to pay for online purchases, pay bills online, top up their mobile phones or authorise payments via SMS.
Thanks to our partnerships, we already offer the best payment solutions. In 2024, Autopay became the first payment operator in Poland to implement one-click card payments on its platform – Mastercard Click to Pay. This eliminates the need to enter card numbers and other information for each payment. Card data is securely stored in data centres.
We also make it easier to travel across Europe with automatic toll payments for motorways in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. More than 2.5 million drivers use our Autopay Mobility solution. We enable the purchase of digital vignettes for seven countries.
More than 50,000 online businesses also use Autopay products. We think big when it comes to supporting our customers. For many years we have been developing solutions that digitise processes. An example of such a solution is Autopay ADDS, which automates marketing processes.
How are you entering new markets? Do you plan to cooperate with foreign partners in Europe and other countries in the world?
Our goal is to become a leading European technology brand. Currently, our expansion strategy is to enter foreign markets with our customers. Outside Poland, we already serve dozens of shops in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia. Soon we will introduce a new range of payment methods. We also plan to enable the Autopay gateway in foreign online stores and directly in mobile apps available in Apple and Google stores.
We are committed to continuing to expand our activities in Europe, but our plans go even further. This year we will open offices in Brazil and Singapore. These will act as hubs for expansion in South America and Asia.
How do Autopay’s solutions contribute to the transformation of mobility, particularly in the context of smart cities and future highways?
Mobility is a crucial topic for us. Our solutions make traveling simpler and more convenient. The Autopay Mobility app enables automatic toll payments for highways in Poland, the purchase of e-vignettes in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary, and soon in Romania. This means that our offer will include the purchase of e-vignettes for all EU countries where this form of payment is required. Through the app, you can also buy an e-vignette for highways and expressways in Switzerland. Perhaps some guests traveling to Davos have used our solution.
We are also working on enabling payment for parking in paid parking zones in over 100 cities in Poland and for fuel at selected stations through the app.
Which business sectors are most interesting for Autopay as potential partners, and what benefits do you see in collaborating with them? What role do you think the World Economic Forum in Davos can play in creating international partnerships for technology companies like Autopay?
We see potential for collaboration in many industries. A good example is medical technology, which could grow to nearly USD 695 billion by the end of 2025, according to MarketsandMarkets. Last year, we started working with ZnanyLekarz, part of the Docplanner Group – the world’s largest online appointment booking platform and a leading provider of SaaS solutions for doctors and medical facilities. Autopay online payments have been implemented in the app and on the website. This allows patients to pay for appointments during the booking process. It’s a convenient solution that makes the process of receiving payments faster and more efficient for clinics and specialists.
Industries with significant growth potential include e-commerce and marketplace platforms. Our priority is partnership agreements based on a revenue share business model. We want to grow with our customers.
The World Economic Forum in Davos plays a key role in building international partnerships. We have daily discussions with partners around the world. But Davos is also an opportunity to bring together many interesting perspectives in one place. This year’s theme is “Collaboration for the Intelligent Age” and discussions will focus on the need to adapt business strategies to changes driven by technology and geopolitical processes.
What message does Autopay want to convey to attendees at this year’s forum in Davos? What key trends in digital payments would you like to initiate or support?
Our experience shows that the biggest goals cannot be achieved alone. Our strategy is based on strong partnerships with payment institutions and banks. Collaboration is also linked to the trends we see in the payments industry. We are entering the era of Payments 3.0 – orchestration and intermediaries. We are witnessing a process of increasing globalisation, but each market has its own challenges and customer needs. As a result, more and more companies are looking to integrate local payment providers and deliver transaction processing value through a single integration.
