Polish House in Davos: Discussions on global trends
Energy transition, investment opportunities in Poland and across Central and Eastern Europe, aid for Ukraine: these are some of the topics to be discussed at the Polish House during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The debates will feature experts, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.
T he Polish House in Davos will open to the guests of the World Economic Forum for the third time. A close look at the Polish economy as well as encounters with culture will take place from 22 to 26 May at Promenade 67 in Davos, where World Economic Forum participants can visit the Polish House, situated 12 minutes on foot from the congress centre and 10 minutes from the Davos Platz train station.
This year’s Polish House agenda focuses on areas that offer the greatest potential for the further development of Poland and for investment opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe. The agenda includes many discussions on important global processes and trends, in which Poland and the entire Central and Eastern European region play an important role.
Global perspective…
The Polish House in Davos is a venue for meetings and dialogue. Important questions will be raised about the most pressing economic and social problems. Thanks to the extensive agenda, the participants can discuss issues relevant to Poland and beyond.
One of the key issues is energy. On Monday, 23 May, the Polish House will host the debate “European Energy Diversification: How alternative sources, routes, and clean technologies can bolster energy security?” The discussion will highlight the urgent need to diversify energy sources in Europe in view of the growing consumption of energy, which has returned to pre-pandemic levels. Another facet of the energy transition is the role of financial institutions. Climate neutrality cannot be achieved without the engagement of the banking industry. The debate “Defining the role of financial institutions in energy transition” is dedicated to this theme. Participants will discuss topics including how to raise capital for sectors that may prove instrumental in fair energy transition.
Another topic to be discussed at the Polish House in Davos is a new growth model for uncertain times. Experts at the panel discussion taking place at the Polish House on Tuesday, 24 May, will address the question of how less developed and developed countries can adopt a new common global growth model supporting further environmentally sustainable economic and social development.
…regional insights
The agenda of the Polish House in Davos embraces the economic perspective of Central and Eastern Europe, including the investment opportunities afforded by the region. This is the theme of the discussion “What it takes to attract new investors to CEE?” on Wednesday, 25 May. Investors considering investing in the region may be attracted by access to new markets, rapid development of the local economies, and continuing infrastructure development. The Polish House will also showcase the role of Central and Eastern Europe in global supply chains. Lessons learned during the pandemic crisis and the outbreak of war in Ukraine are prompting some companies to diversify and shorten their supply chains. As the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe, Poland is especially important in this context. A discussion on this topic will take place on Monday, 23 May.
The organisers have dedicated a large part of the programme to Ukraine. On Monday, 23 May, the Polish House will host an expert panel on “Central and Eastern European Unicorns. How CEE rising stars can contribute to the process of rebuilding Ukraine’s economy.” The debate will focus on how start-ups from the region [unicorns, i.e. technology companies whose valuation has exceeded USD 1 billion - ed.] can help rebuild the economy of a country devastated by war. Another issue to be raised during the panel is the support of businesses and world governments for refugees and companies from Ukraine.
Polish Evening in Davos
The events at the Polish House will take place in the presence of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin. The discussions will be accompanied by evening cultural events celebrating Polish heritage, including the Polish Evening featuring high-level guests on Thursday, 24 May. An evening dedicated to Ukraine #StandWithUkraine is scheduled to take place at the Polish House on Wednesday, 25 May.
